I am in Croydon with my Vickey.
Anneke arrived from Holland Friday night via Euro Star, as she dislikes flying.
Over night five trains are stuck in the tunnel for 18 hours with more than two thousand passengers. Just heard a sixth train stuck! Wasn’t she lucky?
I am half hoping she can't get back in the New Year. Only for the nicest of reasons.
Vickey mentioned snow and her birth, which I was going to do anyway, but it is nice to have a seal of approval.
Vickey was due boxing day 1978.
Well Anne was enjoying Christmas and kept her legs well and truly crossed. Then come the New Year we were snow bound.
This resulted with a helicopter dropping supplies the local shop in Warden Bay, Isle Sheppey. When we enquired about what do we do if Anne goes into labour, we were told helicopter job but the lady only. This horrified us as I had missed Zoe because the Nurse said as I had been up all night perhaps I should stretch my legs. So off I popped for a pie and a pint, have I mentioned I can't eat on an empty stomach; Well Zoe got a move on and when I returned there was mum and number one daughter.
Back to Vickey come Jan 2nd the snowplough finally got through and a phone call from the hospital
"Bring her in quick”. We got in the car and made it so.
Anne's legs had been crossed for so long the midwife admitted crowbars were the order of the day and at midnight I was sent home.
03:00 phone call I was told that "huffing and puffing" had ensued no screaming yet but I should make my way back to Minster hospital, I made it with around an hour to spare. To this day Vickey still has trouble being on time, but Zoe is usually early due Nov 11 arrived Nov2
So after a few days in hospital we decided to take the girls to London and show Vickey off.
When we came home a couple of days later we were snowed off. Back to London for a week until the snow had vanished.
That summer we bought a flat in Anerley. Next to Penge.
As an aside I actually moved in to our house on Sheppey 4 days before my twenty first birthday. This must nowadays be a very rare occurrence
